Surfboards

After much research and previous experience with shortboards,  my favorite type of board is a drivey thruster if about 6'8 length. . Low rocker for easy wave catching.
My latest boards are the best I've ever had and go really well anywhere including Raglan.

The first one I aquired, I found on trademe bit had to go all the way down to the Waikato to someone's farm yo pick it up ! Was great buy, a Santa cruz Pumpkin seed and came with the custom fitted board bag too. Super light but very strong 'powerlyte' construction which uses divinycell foam and epoxy.  6'8 and 20 3/8 wide. ..  I've been so impressed with this board,  much tougher than the old fiberglass construction,  and much better than the junk NSP mini mal board I had before,  which was heavy and the paint was always chipping off.. looked rubbish.

Second one I picked up from Snells beach, another Pumpkin seed in basic epoxy, a 6'6, a almost new one ( $1249 in the shops).. almost identical in volume , not quite as glidey as my 6'8 but will be good in quality waves.  Only surfed it once so far. Perfect backup board !

Karekare after work

Trying to remember where is good on low tide, so went to Karekare, quite rippy, massive sideways rip across most of the beach, and a good right hander in the northern corner. 3 with some 4 ft sets coming infrequently. Light offshore grooming the waves. Took my Pumpkin seed 6'8. Paddled out there, only to find it was all over the place, and hard to stay in position with the rip trying to suck me out to sea.
After 45 mins, gave up, and walked down the beach to try the other corner. It didn't look any better, but could just see a small group of surfers sitting out there. Paddled out, and found there was a great lefthander, quite fast with some barrels. The guys out there had it wired.  Got a feel for my board now, I've only used it twice, so it was good to try it with some punchy waves. Sooo easy to catch waves, and its fairly drivey, and can really sanp in the pocket, and I can get the tail to slide ! Fun.!
Surfed till dark, getting a few good waves.

Muriwai after work

Nice 3ft waves, offshore NE wind, high tide, great fun on my Jordan 7'8 ... bit rusty, as I haven't been surfing in a few months. Met Maria at the beach, and forced her to paddle out the back with me!
